A four-part workshop series led by Frances Mercanti-Anthony, creator of the acclaimed autobiographical production Frances Floats.
A biographical-performance intensive: shape your own true stories into work for the stage, in a supportive and collaborative environment.

About the workshop
Ever wondered what it takes to create a biographical performance piece? Over four sessions you'll develop original autobiographical material under Frances's expert guidance.

Through guided writing, discussion, and performance exercises, participants explore selecting material, shaping theatrical storytelling, editing, and rehearsal techniques. Whether you're new to acting and writing or returning to creative practice, the workshop offers the tools, structure, and inspiration to bring your stories to life.
You'll leave with a short performance piece or work-in-progress. Enrollment is limited to 10 participants to ensure individualized attention and meaningful feedback. Participants must attend all four sessions. No prior experience necessary, so register early to reserve your spot.

All workshops are designed for both seasoned actors and newcomers - all levels are welcome. Come for one, or come for all!

The Waldo uses a sliding scale so that cost isn't the deciding factor in who gets to take part. Each participant chooses the point on the scale that fits their situation. There's no income verification, and everyone is trusted to make the decision that's best for them. Those who can pay full price help create a cushion for those who can't. Scholarships may also be available.
Workshops

The Acting Essentials Workshop series offers adults the opportunity to engage with professional theatre artists as they develop new skills, connect with people in their community, and learn more about theatre arts. It is designed for ages 18–100.

Community Storytelling teaches the art form of storytelling while also bringing community voices into the theatre. Participants develop their stories, share their stories, and ultimately perform their stories for the public. This program is offered once a year in the spring.
Master Classes
Master Classes provide an opportunity for The Waldo public to learn from the talent that come to The Waldo stage. Keep an eye out for opportunities to learn from these amazing artists!
